Actually with starting compensation of 125K, then it takes 15% plus inflation to get to a SVP salary in 35 years
Tough if you are hipo but can see the absence of opportunities in the future. You're ki-ling yourself now but for what ultimate position? Fact is, there aren't many spots to go because the org is shrinking and the pool of talent is getting very competitive at all levels. Each external hire blocks an internal candidate from moving up which causes exponential impact downwards.
Opportunity is now limited.
I think it really depends on how many years in you are and what roles you have. I know HiPos that were 7-8 years in with me and we had the same or similar roles. But as they progressed, they definitely were forced into some high stress roles. On the finance side, year end helper roles supporting the 10K, Investor Relation roles, high up planner roles. All that required 60+ hour weeks and high visibility/scrutiny. That being said they were well compensated and had already created quite a significant gap in salary even at the 7-8 year mark because of the constant Outstanding or OWD rankings. I often question if I want the stress that goes along with the higher pay. At least you switch roles quicker and are not stuck in that specific high stress environment for more than a year or 2.
This is my take on Finance/Cobtrollers. Can’t speak to engineering or the other disciplines.
Unending pressure and visibility on your projects.
That is true. Chasing the pds. My one problem is they create non valued work. Very frustrating.
Excruciating long hours and mega stress choose your hard
