Does Re-Org at SAS Signify Layoffs?

Has anyone heard anything about layoffs at SAS? Emails regarding a re-org to “flatten the org” without staff headcount impact are not the most comforting sign!

It probably won't be a traditional layoff. My thoughts are two-fold:

  1. A number of middle managers (Senior Managers, Managers, TRs) will be demoted to lower middle manager roles or moved to an individual contributor role. Compensation will likely change accordingly. Effectively, a "soft " layoff.
  1. Given that mid-year reviews are around the corner, all low performers (Meets Some or Does Not Meet rating) will be put on PIPs. Their exit will be attributed to performance; thus, not a layoff.
