Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

How much of Colbert is related to Trump?

Colbert is the #1 night show, has been for years. He’s a beloved staple of late night TV.

How much is this Shari wanting to push Skydance through?? Could it be anything OTHER than that? Since Trump admin has to approve the deal and he’s being a b*tch about Colbert who is “mean” to him?

If it’s NOT, why wouldn’t they have sent Colbert to P+ and made it exclusive to the streamer?? No doubt Netflix or HBO is going to scoop him right up and reinvent the late night wheel. You watch.

So done with this train wreck.

Colbert only serves as CBS & Paramount promotional platform. Boring. Colbert is a corporate butt wipe

Oh it’s absolutely to help push Skydance through, so that Skydance doesn’t have to do it and be off to a bad PR start. Cheeks
Is on his way out so he can take the hit. The show may have been losing money but it’s horrible timing and such a bad move as you can see.

The whole Trump thing might have accelerated it, but the show's days (as are all late-night shows) were numbered. Increasingly outdated platform, falling viewership, narrow audience appeal, bloated talent budget.

I hate diaper Don but the Colbert show lost money every year. Ratings don’t really matter when you’re not bringing an advertising dollars. I think his show is great, but I understand why it’s gone.

Likely part of the deal. It avoided Ellison from having to do it.

I think of it this way. Tons of hard working folks on things that make money have been getting laid off so Colbert can make his 20 mill while we lost more than that on his show. He has the lowest YouTube presence, his wife gets a producer credit (and probably some extra cash) for no reason (probably Jon Stewart too). Unlike South Park and other shows, the content is worthless after 24 hrs and can’t be licensed to anyone. The days of overpaying hosts is over. Also, quite frankly he was no letterman. A one trick pony criticizing the right and pushing his catholic agenda. Ratings success not tied to strongest lineup in broadcast?

@ab the only politics involved came from Colbert. When you tell half the country you loath them and don’t want them watching it’s bad business sense.

@OP None. Late night television in broadcast is a dog, with fleas. Advertisers just don't like it, Colbert is polarizing and its more cost efficient to put NCIS re-runs in that spot. Its an expensive show and the margins are paper thin.

@ab Omg don’t get me started about performance reviews

It is 100% political. Look at the players involved (the three eunuchs and the little girl with daddy issues.) We have no communications ab out anything from them or our "chief people manager." We learn everything through the press or other online sources.

Layoffs leave almost all E/SVP's in place while gutting everyone else. They'll survive but there will probably be 25% - 30% of us (below that level) left after the merger.

This is the canary in the coal mine.

Oh and the f'ing nerve to send the email out about mid-year performance reviews.

I'm 100% sure of it. It's probably part of the settlement that's sealed.
