Ugh he is going to stay on to keep the 200 folks employed which I respect. But crapping on the rest of us everyday is not good for morale. I wish they could just let him go do his podcast and buy the staff out in a fair way. At the same time almost no one watches the show (2mm is less than gutfield) so I guess I shouldn’t care about an overpaid hater.

@OP Does this mean that we can finally peel off the life-sized Colbert sticker off of the CCC's cafeteria wall?

"Number 1" but in a rapidly shrinking market that trending toward zero. From the WSJ:

"The Late Show’s audience has fallen more than 30% in the past five years, and even more among the critical 18- to 49-year-old demographic. Mr. Colbert’s operation reportedly costs north of $100 million annually, and hemorrhaged $40 million last year, nearly half being the host’s salary."

Please. Late night hosts are dinosaurs too, someone bring this company into the 21st century already.

Ed Sullivan has a theater named after him. Johnny Carson probably has a saloon in Nebraska in his name but only run by someone who bought the name for the franchise. David Letterman, if he's lucky, gets a small road in Indiana named after him. Colbert? He'll get the fleecing award for diminishing returns on a once great business model.

@a3 this is such a d-mb take. You obviously don’t know anything about how TV works or are not coming to the convo in good faith.

Offer Chappelle another show with complete creative control. Corner the fading late night market.

Colbert was funny on Stewart years ago. Only funny now if you hate Trump. Carson was king with regular shares of 30 mil. The three "jokers" across the former big three, together, couldn't get 1/3 that number.

@OP maybe two nights ago was a test. Bring the network down for 2 hrs during primetime and see who cares.

Deloitte told us to make this move. Auto script is next since he owns that company.
