Thread regarding Optum layoffs

I was going to quit

I decided to wait and see if I get laid off first. To be honest, if they asked for volunteers it would have been better. I'd be one of them for sure and somebody could keep their job. But it is what it is. Here's to hoping that those who want to leave are let go, and those who want to stay, stay.

To work at this company, assume you will be laid off given the increasing use of AI and offshoring. Maybe you won’t be, but there’s a good chance you will be RIFed. Save at least 20 percent of your take home pay (on top of 401 k and any other savings). Yes, this is steep and unfortunate but is necessary given the culture of this org. I’ve seen so many folks laid off over the years and those that followed this strategy all did fine. Those that didn’t, not so much. Probably true at many other large companies too.

I’d take a buyout immediately if offered. They won’t do it because they’d have more takers than they want

@OP I hear you. I have been here forever and am just waiting for (what will be months of) severance. BUT in the meanwhile I am taking all of the training (relevant to my career journey) that I possibly can and doing every other thing I can in my day to day to make myself more employable once I am eventually laid off.

huh? How much severance would you get anyways. Don't let a few weeks pay dictate your career goals and path.

Learn to save money then you can begin to feel real freedom in your decision making
