@cm unfortunately even if they did hear it, we don’t know their motivations. Maybe this is part of their plan.

They are either completely blind to these issues or they are doing it on purpose.

It’s funny to think that the best idea leadership can come up with to solve our problems is RTO. That’ll definitely fix everything… right…

@br you sound like your culture is the one eating slop on the side of the street from gross street vendors. You also sound you come from a place where 30% of your population defecates out in the open. Sit down and stop moving your head side to side.

@aj Couldn't have said it better myself! I've definitely noticed quality going down and stress going up .. way up!

@a6 The AI mandates are about the most ridiculous thing ever done by this company. Essentially treating everyone as a bonafide SWE regardless of your role or duties. It's a joke and all that it's doing to many is ki-ling morale.

"very onshore IT employee, who isn’t SLT or ELT, employed days are numbered as AI is the latest justification to cut headcount."

What's hilariously ironic here is that this is another case of senior "leadership" not knowing anything about tech and thinking they found a silver bullet to solve all their problems, but it's just going to create more. I can't wait to be able to query the whole country's medical records just by asking ChatGPT.

Absolutely fantastic feedback on this post, too bad the people who need to see this and act on it to protect the company and its incredibly valuable tech teams won't. I am sorry your suffering this time in Tech. I expect things will continue unfortunately for some time.

Absolutely all of this for state side employees. Every onshore IT employee, who isn’t SLT or ELT, employed days are numbered as AI is the latest justification to cut headcount. This corporation and every other Fortune 500 company, it seems, has bought into the AI hype and seems to believe AGI will happen in the next two years and 80% of IT employees (both onshore and offshore) will be replaced by SkyNet.

It comes down to idea versus execution for me. Is AI cool and can it make you more productive? Yea, but it doesn’t belong everywhere. It’s not good at everything. “Leaders” stopped funding projects that don’t use AI.

You have grifters offshore that promise our business teams the world at rock bottom prices and despite never delivering they continue to get funding for their next BS fake proof of concept idea.

Relentless offshoring has shaken the confidence of US engineers. Mandates of 65% offshore is absolutely BS.

Stacked ranking has ruined high performing teams because the worst person on a high performing team gets a 2 or 3 while the best person on a cr-ppy team gets a 5. How is that fair?

They send surveys out and the feedback is clear that they do not pay competitively and the company culture is toxic. However, when managers explain this to senior leaders they dismiss it as false positives or tell us “we can only do what we can do”. They expect their managers to improve survey scores but majority of the things people are disgruntled about are things managers have no control over. They form committees to make employees feel heard but never address the root issues. They want the scores to go up without solving the actual problems.

Constant unexplained reorganization efforts have made people give up on ownership over their projects. Good teams that work well together are being broken up and spread around which makes those high performers quit due to their new teams being complete id--ts.

Contractors are being prioritized over full time engineers. They are hired in mass (10-30 on a team). The FTEs are expected to train them but due to their extremely fake engineering credentials they are not able to learn. They contribute nothing and actually take time away from the good engineers due to constant basic engineering questions. Meanwhile the project only has expanded funding for 1 calendar year so even if you do train the contractors they will likely be released December 31. The project funding model is absolutely broken and leads to constant hiring and firing of contractors which wastes a lot of time training people just for them to leave in less than a year.

ESRO puts in policies hastily with almost no ways to get exceptions for non-issues that show up on a report. They require major overhauls to applications to accomplish things like golden images, new artifactory, Microsoft multifactor, etc. but somehow expect the development teams to turn this around quickly while also doing their normal capital projects.

The teams that do a lot are understaffed and underfunded meanwhile teams that literally move data from one place to another are overstaffed and overfunded. The balance is off.

“Champions” email you about things that you do wrong 24/7. Why do we have cloud champions emailing us 5 times to reconfirm the migration date I’ve already given to the five other random people that emailed me about it. How many “champions” do we need. These people are professional emailers.

The benefits dwindle each year. First they got rid of bravos and said they are going to expand RRP bonuses. Then they started decreasing bonus amounts. Now they are getting rid of RRP for grades 26 and below. What’s next?

The health plans they offer their employees su-k. I’ve had better UHC plans at my last company that were offered for much cheaper than the slop they offer to us here.

Wipro is a conman company. Everyone from their employees to their managers has been pawning off their obvious fake resumes to us for years and somehow they are our premiere contracting company.

Onshore managers that manage offshore teams have little overlap in time with them to adequately manage them and develop that team relationship. How can you possibly manage a team you only have two hours of overlap with per day?

Offshore managers have a preference to hire their own people. Offshore architects favor offshore teams to work on projects.

Our technical architects that are supposed to recommend solutions to business teams are completely incompetent. They have no technical knowledge whatsoever and have intentionally misrepresented projects feasibility to business teams. They lie and cheat to extract funding on poor solutions.

Leaders focus more on the numbers on a report than they do the meaning behind the metrics they are tracking. They do things to improve their arbitrary report score rather than understand the nuance of a particular issue. Examples of this are tracking PR count per week. As engineers we know that is heavily dependent on the tasks assigned. More complex tasks take longer but the people making the metrics for measuring productivity are completely clueless.

This company has taken “full stack” way too far. Engineers are being asked to know: front end, backend, database, infrastructure, devops, QA, security, project managers, facilitate business communication, production support, Linux sysadmins, logging experts, and AI engineers. This is causing burnout. A lack of specialization is leading to poor quality products.

If anyone dares to question a “leader” they are gaslit. “Well do you think the entire industry is wrong”. “I’ve been at this company for 20 years and I’ve never seen what you’re talking about before. It must be a fluke.”

This place has a lot of problems but the number one issue is they won’t listen to feedback. You can preach all day about the issue and provide reasonable measures to solve them but those suggestions never reach the people they need to reach. I don’t see how this company can turn itself around without first acknowledging there is a problem and accepting feedback.

Optum tech senior here. They keep adding more and more of these useless offshore onto our team with no interview and they dont even have a high school level understanding of programming or computers. All complaints are met with shrugs from our management who are clearly checked out. I spend over half my day just protecting production from the offshore on my team using Copilot to crank out vibe coded garbage and spamming PR's and trying to call me.

All the while ESRO is pushing out extremely invasive, non-security related mandates that are requiring complete infrastructure overhauls and large migrations onto tools managed by teams of these offshore. The result? Nonstop war rooms, and an extremely unstable tech stack that I have no control over. And the people performing these migrations on our team? All offshore as well, so theyre messing it up and not communicating the obvious gaps until the deadline is well passed.

Its honestly so bad now. The mandating AI usage coupled with mandated offshoring has been a nuclear bo-b on the stability of the IT here. And middle management at all levels is duking it out with each other with the blame games and trying to "win" the chaos now that things have started breaking like crazy. Ive been on multiple severity 1 war rooms this year where things are breaking catastrophically, and no one knows what to do and the team is full offshore and not joining calls during USA business hours and people cant get treatment or view the UHC portal because of it.

Having american jobs given to h1b indians and other foreigners as if theyre doing us a big favor and needed them while they dont know how to speak or present any idea coherently. as if americans didnt build a common culture, ideals, beautiful infrastructure, had amazing advances in economics, math, science, etc. This is what should be pi----g everyone off.

  • Job security is 100% gone, anywhere and everywhere
  • The workplace is all about surveilance, mental health suffers
  • Leaders are grifters, nobody trusts them, all of them
  • Burnout is a mega problem
  • Communication is Kabuki
  • Severance is our last perk, all perks are gone.
  • No purpose, no trust, no goal, no common thread

So yeah, there you go - fu-k it
