Thread regarding Apache Corp. layoffs

the share buybacks have been a colossal waste of money.

the buybacks have been going on for almost ten years now??? they consistently reported buybacks at an average quarterly price that was higher than the current share price. and now look at the stock price. it’s basically been in constant decline - sure, there was a bit of a rise in 2022 - but the trend is clear.

Sooo all that money spent on buybacks has just evaporated, doing basically nothing except reducing overall share count, which in turn helped the execs with their metrics and resulting bonuses. what a complete disaster the reign of JC has been for the company, its employees , its assets which have been squandered, and its investors who have been repeatedly lied to and misled.

Since 2018 share buy backs have totaled about $3.3 B and current Debt is about $5.5B. Makes you wonder were the stock would be if the $3.3B had been used to pay down debt.

If you want to squeeze money from the company and into you wallet, you can't just write yourself a check. What you can do is take money you could have spent on the company and instead buy back shares so you can pump up the shares you have and then sell that. Even if everyone is honest, share buybacks screams to anyone watching that the best place for a dollar given to Apache is to simply give it back. There's no narrative more honest than this in expressing "we're done here".

Think about how much lower share price would be if we stopped creating fake demand?

It would be impossible to agree any more. The share buybacks were a colossal waste of money. All they did was throw money into a bottomless pit. The ELT and board should be sued into oblivion for their (mis)management of this corporation. These id--ts couldn't properly manage a snow cone stand much less an E&P company.

Wait. They always say ‘It’s putting money in our pockets’. What a frigging joke. They should pay down debt since their capital spending is just as bad.
