Daimler Truck is laying off 573 workers at its Mount Holly, North Carolina plant. It will happen on Friday, July 18, 2025, due to a temporary but indefinite reduction in truck manufacturing.
Most affected employees are truck assemblers (445 of the 573 who are being laid off). Workers will continue to be paid through 9/9, and the company will cover COBRA premiums for 2 mo in addition to the 6mo included in the union agreement.
The layoffs come amid a decline in commercial truck sales (dropped just about 6.5% in Q1 2025) and uncertainty influenced by tariffs. Daimler is the biggest manufacturing employer in Gaston County, and its North Carolina operations support nearly 7,000 jobs statewide.
