Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

4x in office starting 9/5

You heard it here first. FOUR days in office starting September. I’d be nervous if I were you remote workers.

@bg Us corporate people didn't sign up to work at a store, FYI. YOU all applied for a Field position. WE didn't.

Walgreen was purchased by a private equity firm. I'm not going to explain what that means. Feel free to look up what happens when a private equity firm purchases a company. They always go under. The debt is placed on the company, not the PE. The purpose is to raise the stock value and make the shareholders happy before they split up or go under. Companies that went under when sycamore came in: Nine West Holdings, Belk, Aéropostale, The Limited, NBG Home. The excuse is always restructuring, or saving a struggling business. It's absolutely not. Its simply about money, and Walgreen really is going to go away. You should take advantage of the now time.

@ks Everyone's experience is different. Not discounting your's but working in the corporate office with good pay and a regular schedule, is not what many employees at Walgreens experience. My previous job provided good pay, great benefits and I looked forward to being in the office. Walgreens, not so much. With what Walgreens pays, it's not worth the drive. Regarding that previous job, we were bought out by another company and our division was closed. Time will tell whether Sycamore has similar plans.

When I started with Walgreens you had to be at the office from 8AM to 5PM five days a week. There used to be a traffic jam at 5PM on Wilmot RD when everyone left. And now you are complaining you have to come in 4 days a week. I'm happy to have a good paying job, drinking the Kool Aid pays my bills and able to have money for fun family events. Some jobs are better than others, but that's why they call it WORK! Grass sometimes seems greener on the other side until you jump the fence. Walgreens will live on, might be smaller in size but very grateful for the years and my paycheck.

@ke Someone is w-a-a-a-y too interested in people's motivation to stay working at Walgreens. You seem to be on a one person crusade to persuade everyone to quit. Did you formally work for Walgreens? Maybe even drank the Kool-aid but left on less than favorable terms? Maybe take a deep breath let Walgreens go.

@k3.......SO you will stay with a going under, tanking Walgreen's company that is a laughing stock in the industry BUT if you are required to go into an office to work that will be your last day Walgreen's? How pathetic. Wouldn't want you working for my company. Typical Walgreen's employee mentality. Really hard to go to work into an office. It's been done for years.

@k1 if there is a deadline for returning to the office, that will be my last day with Walgreens.

@es lol you don’t think the current leadership team doesn’t feel in-person collaboration and execution isn’t necessary now more than ever since PE is taking over? Kiss your kush work-from-home goodbye.

Will this affect field based roles like DPR, DM, HCS, HR which are pretty much remote with travel?

I feel that actually being in the building is important for a productive workplace but working in a call center for Walgreens changed my mind. Awful environment. Working from home is the ONLY thing that makes working for Walgreens tolerable.

Some say the various city governments and various commercial building owners are pushing companies to force return to office so they do not loose out on building rent and economic spending. Crazy.

What a concept, going to an office to work. It should be five days a week. Get real. If you don't like it leave. But heck, for a losing company if you have stayed to work at Walgreen's you deserve it all.
