Telstra Group to lay off 550 employees

Telstra Group plans to lay off 550 employees, nearly 2% of its workforce, as part of an ongoing overhaul of its enterprise business and structural changes across the organisation. The move follows last year’s termination of around 1,900 roles. Telstra clarified that the cuts are unrelated to AI adoption but aim to improve internal efficiency and streamline operations.

The executive elements need to be sacked. Sending jobs overseas is not helping Australians to find employment.

It is true that these layoffs are unrelated to our AI adoption.

Due to AI already in place, we simply don't need real people to do the tasks that we have remaining.

We no longer need to do any repairs in our networks. Problems can simply be masked by restarting equipment. This can be done by AI.

Moreover, remaining tasks can be moved to our offshore centers and staff requirements in Australia can be reduced dramatically. Offshore workers only attract 10% of the wages paid to Australian staff.
