Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Criticals

Anyone know what happens if you get 2 criticals within a year? Do you get 1 year off and comeback or is it termination?

@2m5 And that’s why we’re seeing a decline of career railroaders. It’s only going to get worse.

For all those folks that said your out after 2 criticals, guess what? Your right. It just happened at our shop. 2 criticals gets you a ticket out the door. Amazing what our unions have allowed. In the past, it was almost impossible to get fired. Weak unions!

Yeah but the two veteran mso at proviso was existential. The one was a manager previously. Never had a big head just was looking out for family. Ran into issues after covering our managers a**es as agreement coverage when one was taken oos for months. Had to step down for family reason and all the managers lost vacation coverage. Rumor has it there was other stuff he was not willing to do for the numbers. Went to the local chair for advice and yeah next you know theyre both gone. Sh-t thing is their yard offense would have been prevented if the director had coached them in our marsh yard prior same day. But thats not a critical although coachable.

If you have 2 criticals in a year, it means you’re not wanted anymore. Consider employment elsewhere.

Don’t worry, I’m sure the local chairman are working very hard to make sure nothing bad happens to their members. 🤣

No, but I think many people are going to find out. They've been adding or amending to the critical rule list, so I'm just waiting to hear about someone getting slapped with a rule violation because they showed up to work the wrong way. I personally don't give a sh-t about the UP anymore. If they want to keep adding rules and make it incredibly easy to get rid of people, then have at it! Good god dam luck to the UP when they get rid of enough people and even more people leave on their own, because those people are now pi---d off and decided it's no longer worth it. Don't forget that the UP has had a he-l of a time hiring anyone when they needed them in the past. Keep going UP! The company can't quit, but the employees can!

Proviso got rid of two veteran MSO‘s that way. One of them was the local chairman for the MSO‘s with 15+ years of service and the union basically did next to nothing to help their own. Rumor has it, he pretty much ran his own investigation on top of it with video clearly showing he did no work that required a blue flag. Neither one of them have come back and now more than likely go to arbitration.

In the past, back when we had something called levels. You would get 30 days off and return to work. More serious offenses would get you the year off and still return. The only offense that would get you fired was absenteeism. Criticals is something new. I heard it was a 2 strike rule and your out.

Nothing happens to you, unless you complain to much, or tell them how inept they really are. They're stacking the deck against you just in case.

Breaking rules gets you promoted to a management position. Continuously breaking the rules gets you even higher up the ladder. If you want to be considered for anything higher than a director, then you have to know how to lie as well. If you can break rules and lie all the time, then you can possibly become an executive at the UP.
