Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

People have been leaving voluntarily at a steady pace for a while

If management was smart, they'd just not backfill any positions and reduce the headcount like that, instead of constantly having layoffs. It would be good for morale and productivity, that's for sure. Who can concentrate on work when layoffs are always hanging over our heads?

They are voluntary departure is a financial gain and add the layoffs on top.

If they do a massive layoff like “normal” it’s gonna hurt the propped up stock price. So they do these smaller ones to stay off the radar and don’t backfill attrition. On top of all this they always budget a certain level of attrition like most companies. If it isn’t met, well the budget has to balance.

@av It condradicts stack ranking. They are forcing people to the bottom. They are not necessarily bad performers.

Don't you see what's happening yet? The company hasn't had a sizable layoff in several quarters. Moreover, there's a hiring freeze in most western offices but not in eastern offices. It's just blatantly obvious the company is shifting east. The industry has been gently off shoring for a few years. RTO mandates give the c-suite ba----ds a perfect channel to get rid of high dollar western workers and replace them with more "cost-effective" teams in the east, all without the cost of layoffs.

Get out while you can. Much easier to find a new position while employed.

The people with mobility (good performers) often leave first. Some areas of the business have been subject to headcount freeze for several years. When it isn't frozen, teams are pressed to take early in career people from the internal programs (S3, vets, etc) and lose productivity getting them up to some level.

Managers have used layoffs to put low performers out if they can because it is much quicker and easier than managing them out through HR processes. But then they don't get backfills unless (see above) so you don't come out ahead.

NetApp isn't investing in people in critical areas and it is showing.

The better people leave first. NetApp needs to hire or it will be left only with the bottom rung of developers. Its in a bad situation as is.
