Indebtedness diminishes one's options. Less debt is more equity in your home or 401k. Start contributing to your 401K as early as possible. The compounding of earnings over your working lifetime will pay big dividends, if you invest wisely and lead to a more comfortable and possibly earlier retirement.
I would like to be free of this place but unfortunately I cannot afford it. Literally.

I would pity the folks that stay behind.

You aren't getting a severance package while Bill is CEO, he said it plainly.
Only if they give me a severance package...and its not that I hate the place, its just that my leadership doesn't understand or value what my team does and so we're constantly wondering if we'll be moved to a different area. I check the internal job listings everyday but considering I was impacted by the spans and layers initiative its difficult to find something that is in equivalent pay grade....
