Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I don’t have a job, I have a career!

Let’s be real most people at Dell don’t have careers. They’ve got jobs. Disposable, grind-you-down, “be grateful you’re still here” jobs.

Silly people...TECH at single company has rarely been a career. It's like yall think there is a pension or EMC had a pension. Unfortunately we are subject to the whimsy of the market, the industry or a consulting firm.

Facts are many folks worked as lowly demand gen reps at both companies and got promoted. Each had their own career ladder. Let us not conflate "GOOD" times with what was happening. When Dell or EMC had a stock market downturn folks got cut.

We should focus on 20 people per manager limits our interactions with our leaders significantly and this makes reporting more difficult if things are fluid. We all understand the industry.

100%. At EMC people had careers. Dell is 1 step away from working at Home Depot. Actually Home Depot probably has better benefits.

And the second your Tell Dell feedback gets a little too honest? You’re suddenly “not aligned with strategy.”

Unless you’re wearing a VP badge or carrying someone’s water, don’t kid yourself you’re not building a career here. You’re keeping a seat warm.
