Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Is job stacking ethical?

What I’d like you to do is simply zoom out and think about it for a second. Are companies ethical? You really think they care about each of their employees? Are they financing them just enough so they don’t live a stressful life? Are they providing just enough for you (not to live a luxurious life) simply just enough to get by? Job stacking flips the script - The first lesson I learned job stacking is that the fear of losing your job is gone. The moment you lock in multiple income streams, fear evaporates. Losing any single job no longer induces panic when backup plans churn out paychecks.

I work 2 full time jobs during the week and a part time jobs on the weekend. If I had to buy a house within an hour of the office at today's prices I wouldn't be able to afford it.

The only unethical part of this is how little we get paid in support.

Hey Mon, when I was your age I was a maintenance man, a carpenter, a cab driver, a cook, a hospital orderly, a security guard, a tour guide, a fish cleaner and an Amway distributor all in the same day!

So almost every employment contract includes language about outside employment. I would read that closely. Most likely if your employer finds out you will be terminated, they might even reach out to your other employer if they know who it is.

If you are cool with potentially losing both jobs and think you can handle the juggle, best of luck to you but you should prepare for this being a temporary situation and know that your references will most likely be fu---d.

I never did this myself, but know people who have been caught and it took them some time to repair their reputational value. I am pretty certain that the itch wasn’t worth the scratch in their situation but whether it makes sense in yours is really up to you.

'Dell is not an ethical company. Many companies are.'

This. Dell is low tier company with the values that follow.

Working multiple job is fine as long as you are not double dipping by working both same shift.
