Not laid off (yet), but just found out I and others are moving under offshore director. I'm a 29. Dusting off resume now. I've worked for this company since 2009, and this is the thank you.

Run - same thing happened here. Was only a 28 but Ranjeet had 50 cousins wanting my job, so...
sad but a reality if you’re in Optum tech, not sure how long US based employees have.

Ooh another law on the books UHG is so scared. Nobody will enforce so good luck. WARN is useless
@ay You have no idea where the poster started. Silly uninformed response.
@c9 False. Doesn't matter who you report to or where they reside. US based company and employee. The WARN act won't be broken, UHG is very skilled at avoiding it.
@OP sad but a reality if you’re in Optum tech, not sure how long US based employees have. Guessing they will keep a shell to give the impression it’s US based.
It’s amazing to think that the US government is giving control of ‘how’ ~27% of all federal funds are spent to another country. That’s the amount the US spends on Medicaid and Medicare. Not to mention the AI used to determine who gets care … all driven by offshore resources.
@c9 I don't believe this to be the case. The WARN Act applies to private for-profit businesses, non-profit organizations, and certain quasi-public entities. It also applies to businesses with 100 or more employees, excluding those with less than 6 months of service, or those working fewer than 20 hours a week. Please correct me if I am misunderstanding.
Welcome to the club. Get ready for those early morning BS meetings. I’ve been in and out of offshore managers. With such little overlap you rarely see them. They don’t give guidance. I wouldn’t say the writing is on the wall but my experience has been poor with them.
@b5 That would never do. If we were nationalistic and didn't hire do-nothing offshorers, this company might actually be capable of making progress.
Reporting to someone offshore means you're not protected by the WARN act. WARN act provides 60 days notice for mass layoffs in a specific state. People who are telecommuting are classified as an employee of the location of the person they report to.
From what I’ve seen, it’s not very uncommon, and doesn’t necessarily mean you’re on the chopping block…if that helps
bonus you are 11 hours out of synch so never have to talk to them
@a2 we should be “nationalistic” to our own as well. Every other country of the non-European variety is. Will we ever learn?
@OP being there 16 years and being a 29 tells me all I need to know. They're managing you out. You have hit your ceiling.
That su-ks, likely writing is on the wall to replace you with an offshore as soon as they feel comfortable to do so.
@a4 thank you, I needed to hear this
fwiw I have gotten the best raises/bonuses of my career the past 2 years while reporting up through an India director.
Unfortunate. Being sentenced to having an offshore manager is not a good sign especially with how nationalistic many offshore managers are. Best of luck in the job search.
@OP so sorry praying for you
