Recent MS layoff has nothing to do with AI. Just re-org. Cisco obviously has too many staff working for so long, 15 years or over 20 years and they have not learned anything new, hence would not be able to find a job outside Cisco, no motivation, but bragging that they are working for Cisco, which has lost the name value since 15 yrs ago. How sad they are...

Some of the leaders are already getting impressed by MSFT and hinting at "too many managers". So layoffs are about to hit some time in 2025. Remember, some of our leaders are not actually leaders but copy pasters.

Look at the size of Microsoft. It's not Apples to Apples

Obviously Cisco will do LRs in the future, no one doubts that, but Microsoft has its own problems:

  • coasting on past success of Azure but will never touch AWS
  • Windows decline by 400 million seats over the last few years
  • video games business in disarray
  • CoPilot completely out of the running vs other AI competitors
  • allowed Oracle to come in and take over OpenAI buddy relationship
  • Windows on ARM ("AI laptops") basically completely dead (did anyone buy one?)

and they still have 200k+ headcount...

Those who jumped technical job to become managers will resent. There is no going back to being technical again

they will find this out eventually when they look for work post-Cisco and discover that they are getting down-leveled to mid-grade IC due to having a long stint at Cisco

This round will focus primarily on middle managers. That is the most shrinkable layer made redundant by AI, as also confirmed by Microsoft, Amazon and the kind.

Those who jumped technical job to become managers will resent. There is no going back to being technical again. This will be the AI redundancy layer, out the door.

Most people have a mortgage to pay friend. Sales isn’t saving lives by selling switches.

August LR will impact more Cisco sales folks than we've seen before. I really feel sorry as most of them still have a mortage to pay...
