Reading other boards a few companies such as Hess, Chevron, Conoco-Phillips are offering early retirements. I don't think Oxy will do layoffs based on Vicki saying as much, but in the past there has been offers of a VSP. It seems we might be primed for the same thing since the last ones were about 5 years ago.

Maybe a VSP soon. Looks like a few of the majors and large independents have made offers to their employees. I would take one and ride off into the sunset of my career in oil and gas. There should be a lot of talent out there to replace us with once things pick up if they ever do.
You can blame Covid and the work from home era for the lazy work ethic in some. Not the majority of people but some got used to not working hard.
@1fw+1jz0qbbg3 I agree, but it is more than just fat. First, get rid of the non-performers and the people that are not up to par. I am sick and tired of working my rear off while the losers coast with no worry at all. People need to be scared that they will lose their jobs if they don't perform. HR and some management are useless and just allow people to coast. It has become totally ridiculous that people are kept while they do hardly anything. Some treat work like a vacation and find every way they can to not work and use Oxy as a playground, and a place to collect a check. Back in the day the non-performers were out the door and replaced with people that actually had a work ethic. Corporate America has become soft and the goods ones have to carry the bad employees. If a person is not performing just fire them and forget the PIP process. If they want to sue the company then get in line. It is a joke.
Looks like no VSP for any of us per the soup guy. Sure would be a good time to ride off into retirement, but guess that has to wait.
We need to trim the fat one way or another.
No VSP for you. The soup guy has spoken.
@ff , No, certain APC employees were eligible for a COC severance, but the VSP available to OPC employees was not a COC severance. You are correct in one aspect, though. The more severe the company problems are, the more generous the severance package might be.
The previous VSP was a “change of control “ VSP when OXY bought Anadarko.. They are always way more generous than a VSP due to a downturn. If you got six months pay that would be very generous.
A vsp will clean out all of the experience that did not take the last VSP. The folks that stayed will be sitting pretty if the VSP is as good as last time. But why is a VSP or layoff necessary if the company is doing so well and operating with a lean staff.
Manager knows a buyout is coming soon.
Nah Oxy won’t do it. They’ll only get rid of contractors. Unless some drastic happens then they might change their minds. Even though I know a manager that was going to retire then all the sudden retracted that and said they are going to stay. So who knows, maybe they know something we don’t.
I know of several in my department who are hoping and praying we get one and they’ll be gone. I’m too young…
