Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Is Amar Desai next on the RIF list?

From Reuters, posted yesterday after the closing bell:
UnitedHealth appoints new CEO to run health services division

NEW YORK (Reuters) -UnitedHealth Group's health services segment, Optum Health, will be led by Patrick Conway, according to an internal company memo.

Anyone have insights on this? Weaving Optum Health ever so tightly into OI and OFS?

A friend of mine from CVS said “well he bounced over to CVS just long enough to destroy value, and now he’s your problem again”. Why our “leadership” looked at what he did at CVS and thought that train wreck was a good example of work well done and consciously decided to bring him back is beyond me.

Hopefully GM and KM ( who thinks the UR dept is a call center ) will be booted out with their leader.

He going to digitalize your experience. That means u open up you app and you do everything online just like social security. If you don’t know how to do that well you’re just out of luck cause there are certain things that have to be done online or you print and mail in. So if u want any kind of service you use your app. So that service does not require a bunch of people . Hence continued layoffs

Probably since it looks like he only has 2 people reporting to him

Good if true. Desai needs to go! He seems to work against any OH area other than the CDOs - never able to strategically align any OH solutions and CDOs, much less centralize much of anything across the different regions.

He, and the leaders reporting to him that he moved from the markets into OH, seem to have a big disconnect with the fact that they are under UHG. And for better or worse that means aligning to that payer agenda.

And to be clear, I think it’s nuts and not good that UHG can own & control providers but it’s reality and Desai and team’s inability/refusal to find the path to make that work made OH a nightmare of an org for employees and patients/members in the last couple of years.

This is actually a great development. In public Conway has talked about innovation being the driver in reducing Healthcare cost. In private he's talked openly about the incompetency of our offshore resources specifically Candyman. It will take a while for him to get his people in place. But potentially a light at the end of the RIF tunnel.
