Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Oh well, looks like RTO might be the final straw

I’ve been thinking about leaving for a while, but I kept holding on. The timing never felt right, or the other offers didn’t seem worth the switch. The ability to work from home was a big perk for me, one I truly valued, even if it meant staying available late into the night. Now, I’m convinced that RTO will be rolled out in a way that makes it either extremely inconvenient or outright impossible to manage. Suddenly, other opportunities are starting to look a lot more attractive than what I’ve been settling for here.

Many managers are psychopaths and relish seeing people suffer.

RTO costs a company more than getting managers who know how to manage a remote workforce. But politically-connected companies will take a loss to sway with the political winds. And right now, the politicians are being pressed hard by the commercial landlords and real estate investors to fill up empty offices even if it bankrupts the companies.

I'm actively looking for a new job. No way I am going in 4 days a week.

But all of this is simply the intended "soft layoff" approach they are seeking. They don't want negative publicity by actual layoffs, but 'leadership' will force as much misery as possible on workers. Most 'leaders' are miserable human beings seeking power over others.

@d2

Thats funny you consider remote workers outsiders. Things might be better if you weren't such a butt hurt boomer about it. Comes down to value old timer. Or someone just negotiated better than you. Up to you how you deal with it. But it is what it is. Cope.

@cp

You do realize you're the boomer here right? Anyone thinks a$$ in chair = better quality / more work is slow, d-mb, and quite frankly on thier way out. They are doing this for attrition. Layoffs are bad press and they don't need anymore of that right now.

@ae Remote workers have no change and are unaffected. After all, any external hire is obviously superior to the rest of us id--ts who are local.

@cp there are many reasons why people don’t want to return to the office. The two females in our group don’t want to be around the pe-v LL6. The little pe-v humps the back of their chairs and makes all sorts of inappropriate remarks. The LL5 pretends it isn’t happening as the LL6 is the LL3’s mentee and they have bonded over their short stature and supposed wicked humor. One GSR8 joins in with the pe-v LL6. Ticks me off as they have daughters and they treat women this way. Now we all have to babysit the LL6 again and run interference all day on top of dealing with call center noise and all the social butterfly time wasters.

If you dread going to office to work then retire! Ford wants younger, flexible workers anyway. The world is returning to what it should be! The WFH freak show is over for all you lazy folks!

Same here. Despite the horrible management and toxic working environment lead by arrogant people who don’t even know they are wrong, I decided to stay for the flexibility. RTO 4 days a week makes this job not so attractive anymore. Considering very few people at Ford lives in Dearborn, the time on the road every week is now a significant amount of time. Time is money too. I would take a job closer to me with less pay.

What about the employees that were hired and classified remote initially? Was there some exemption for those individuals?

This on top of the horrible performance review system they have laid out makes me wonder who the he-l even wants to work for this company anymore. The leadership will just farm out work to suppliers and pay them 3x more rather than doing the bare minimum to increase work place morale. Ford is sinking fast under JF and DF and I hope everyone preparing to interview at other places.

I'm out. I simply don't want to play the game anymore if I have to do it onsite 4 days a week, and the options are minimal. People are miserable, management lacks leadership skills & vision, the work spaces are old, dirty, and dysfunctional, the bathrooms are poorly maintained, trash removal and vacuuming is sporadic at best, and the cafeteria su-ks. Did I mention the overall work environment blows? There are many good people working there, but you wouldn't know it by the way management runs the place. (benchmarking center, roush building 9).

Yeap! The first thought in my head after hearing the news was Fck Ford! I'll stay until September 1st, or whatever, and take a vacation. Maybe a trip to Europe. I need to remove the Ford poison from my mind before finding a new job.

Gotta do what works for you. If you can find a wfh job that pays similar or better yet more why not leave?

My gut tells me Ford sees a coming change in the labor market and is timing this RTO to coincide with it. If you want to leave now may be the time in case unemployment rates start to creep up.

Same here! I was planning to retire this year. I like my teammates and my manager so I decided to stay until the end of this year to retire. The new RTO policy changes my mind. Now I will retire by September 1. I guess I will contribute to the cost reduction effort they try so hard to achieve by sc--wing everyone
