An Integrator of Assemblies - hopefully an end to that bad idea

In 2005, Boeing sold its Wichita factory, along with facilities in Tulsa and McAlester, to Onex Corporation for $900 million in cash and the assumption of $300 million in debt, totaling $1.2 billion in enterprise value. This new entity was named Spirit AeroSystems. Boeing later announced plans to repurchase Spirit AeroSystems, valuing the company at $4.7 billion.

The sale of Boeing's Wichita division and Oklahoma operations in 2005 created Spirit AeroSystems.

The sale was part of a broader strategy for Boeing to function more as an integrator of assemblies built by suppliers.

The deal involved $900 million in cash and the assumption of $300 million in debt, for a total of $1.2 billion.

Boeing later decided to reacquire Spirit, with the current deal valuing the company at $4.7 billion.
