Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford culture vs Tesla culture

Ford embrace using the older workforce to develop new products. All vehicles are the same style, tech, features, poor quality year after year.

Tesla embrace younger workforce to develop new products. Creativity and innovation. Enter products and better technology. Vehicles are improving year after year.

Many young engineers often assume they're ahead of the seasoned ones—until it's time to actually engineer. Those who think they can bypass real work and jump straight into high-paying roles often end up being the least effective. And yes, some will still make it to LL5 or LL6. And so, the cycle continues.

@OP Wrong! The issue is not age, but competency. Ford laid off the best engineers to save on pension and salary costs. Created the HTHD positions and filled them with FnFs. What remains is mediocrity, low moral, unmotivated talent and many FnFs milking the company. In fact, Ford hired "bunny flippers", an ex-Tesla and ex-Apple failure, sorry, I meant job hopper, as the Model E "leader".

Tesla has many issues, but not related to a workforce not motivated or not working. Musk has publicly stated expectations for high-intensity work, with some comments suggesting 80+ hours a week as a benchmark. Still, Tesla pays overtime, instead of comp time or not paid at all, like Ford does. Money and "rizz" attract talent. Tesla have plenty, Ford not so much.

This BS is why Elon and all the other tech bros have been able to get away with squeezing the life out of the young workforce for the past 10 years. They just don't know any better.

The problem is leadership having their head up their a-s and not understanding how to build or manage teams of competent, experienced people.

Tesla designed the Cybertruck, which can’t even be taken to a car wash without risk of damaging the battery. Also has those panels that can fly off while cruising on the highway. Sure, that’s very creative.

Age has nothing to do with it. A Competent workforce workforce does. Look at Bob Lutz. Perfect example a true car guy. not a pretender or entitled top like Ford has today... Start with BOD and the senior management they set the tone.
