Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Can we go a year without layoffs?

In the last ten years, I can't recall a single one when we had no layoffs. Please, correct me if I'm misremembering, but I believe I'm right. It's not good for morale or employee retention not to have at least a semblance of job security, and Intel doesn't even have that. Can we go a year without the need to get rid of employees?

Yes and was exacerbated in 2016, and Intel has had a morale issue since then. This layoff is not going to bode well. They are already hurting for talent, but just don't seem to realize it. Don't even get me started on Pat and his cronies!

This is gonna backfire like ACT. There will be a net loss of talent. Most employees with over 5 years are applying at multiple places proactively. I'm sure some of the best and brightest will leave since they got the ball rolling - whether they get a package or not. Strategic thinking is absent here, as always, which is worrisome.

I disagree. Intel is a business, kinda like a sports team. Even if your are a star but are too expensive for the salary cap, you might get cut to make room for cheaper talent with potential. If you don't want layoffs, go take a government job.

No you cant. Its business. If you are afraid of layoffs, then just dont work.

Layoffs are like taking a sh-t. You got to do it regularly.

Regular layoffs (of any size) are considered as good managers practice.
This is meant to get rid of low performers (~5%) on a regular basis.
@Intel, it gets out of hand due to failed business plans and over-hiring/empire building by uncontrolled middle managers.
