Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Don't forget to check on former employees

Don't forget to check in with former teammates that were part of the layoffs. Don't treat them like they have the plague thinking it will win you favor and protect you on the next rounds

It’s good to understand, what others think. But I have never said goodbye in any job. I have never heard back from my work colleagues either. It has not mattered for me at least

Agree it's nice to send along a good word. I think it takes the sting out of things ever so slightly. However, as others have noted, everyone is really busy and when they fire whole departments, it's kind of hard to spend time tracking how everyone you knew (which could be many) is doing. Still a response to a goodbye e-mail can't hurt.

@df I think you're missing the heart of what the original post is saying. It’s not about some conspiracy that the company is tracking who talks to who. it’s about basic human decency.

When someone is laid off, and suddenly people they worked with for years go silent, it hurts. And that silence often does get interpreted as avoidance because the laid-off folks are sometimes left without clarity or closure.

Yes, the people still employed are overwhelmed. Nobody is denying that. But it costs very little to send a quick message that says “thinking of you,” or “sorry this happened.” And yet, many don’t. That’s what the post is calling out. the avoidance, not the workload.

Let’s not invalidate someone’s emotional response to a real loss just because your experience was different. Especially of you are posting from employed position of safety and security for now.

And yes it is personal. Years spent working alongside, solving problems with, building trust with. Being laid off doesn’t suddenly wipe that out. When those same people go silent, it’s not just a professional loss.

taking this personally is not worth it. thinking it's due to a plot to curry favor (as if the company knows who you are talking to?) is just weird. the people still here are busy picking up all the work left when they cut staff. the situation is also really awkward. and you may see on this board that there's a perception that all the good people get cut and everyone left is a kiss up or a waste of time. the company already took your livelihood and security, don't let it mess with your mind too.
