Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

CA “WARN” law and 60 days notice before 50+ ppl layoffs?

“CA's "WARN" law requires Twitter to give you 60 days notice of a massive layoff.
A layoff of 50+ employees within a 30 day period qualifies.” — seeing this and similar statements floating around social media the last 36+ hours. Don’t know the accuracy of the quote above.

Seeing tons of mentions of the California “WARN” act given Twitters brutal situation the last few days — who knows more about this and how it applies to Teradata, given it’s HQ is in California?

Is this why SM announced there would be company wide of the approaching layoffs in the summer before they happened in the fall (in either 2021 or 2020, can’t recall now which year).

And then they skirt around this by doing RIFs of less than 50 people scattered occasionally through the year, bit by bit?

Who has more info? It might help quell the rumor mill on any upcoming mass layoffs here.

That SM thing happened in 2020 while the pandemic and summer of love was in full swing. It was a time when you didn't know if you would be the next to die by COVID, or have your house burnt down by the mostly peaceful protestors. On top of all that, thanks to SM (and probably KCC too), TD employees had to suffer not knowing how long they'd have a job. It was cruel and I'm sure was done on purpose to get people to quit on their own so that TD wouldn't have to pay severance.

Got it: so that’s where the common 2 months severance comes in for the USA. They avoid giving advance 60 days notice by granting the (at minimum) 2 months severance to Californians. (And perhaps to all USA employees?).

CA WARN act is relatively straight-forward. You need to give warning if you are laying off more than 50 people at a single location. You can see the details here: https://edd.ca.gov/en/Jobs_and_Training/Layoff_Services_WARN

In the past TD has notified the proper agencies the same day that individual employees were notified. If you were in the lay-off you basically were told that you have 60 days left on your employment. You are still on payroll, getting benefits, but you are dismissed from the office, turn in all company equipment, lose all network access and don't do any work for those 60 days.
