Randy Guard is finally out—about 1 year and 10 months later than he should’ve been. Any bets on who’s stepping in to 'fix' marketing this time? Beckley for round four? Lang, the self-proclaimed marketing guru? Or Matt, the expert on absolutely everything?

@1pk Randy couldn’t say no to execs and had zero direction. I thought I was going to be a lifer at Appian and I know many on my team felt the same way. Leaving last year was the best thing I couldve done and I know my teammates feel the same about their departures. But it’s definitely sad when you think of how great Appian used to be.
Randy's short tenure oversaw 75% attrition in my team in marketing, and we weren't even the worst hit. Though the layoffs were painful, what was even worse was watching the most talented and hardest working folks all leave voluntarily, most of them in a span of just three months. Good riddance.
Lang? Leading part of marketing? LOL!
One part of the team now reporting to Matt and the rest Lang? They really want to drive the remaining marketers right out and replace them with college grads don’t they?
executive search committee about to make another 500k
Can't wait to see what +50yr old white male they hire next!
appian is a house of cards falling apart
How disappointing to see such a talented group of people that consistently delivered impactful work be decimated like this but this is an unsurprising outcome. Everyone knew where this was headed. Randy should have seen the red flags from the start. Matt and his CoS are convinced their own marketing prowess is better than actual marketers so no CMO on earth will succeed unless they agree to early 2000's era creative and to spinning wheels and resources on things like Lego builds (you know, the thing the customer's really want). For those on the team still standing, you deserve better. There are plenty of tech companies out there doing real marketing, and they even know what a campaign is.
Is there anyone left in marketing?!
Only surprise is how long it took. The people who left previously were some of the best of Appian, and the smartest, they knew to get out before this happened…..again.
Marketing leadership is now reporting direct to Matt. I think we all know how this ends.
about time
