Layoffs are coming in July

Things are way too quiet right now. I see another rounds of layoffs coming in early July

Hoping everyone made it through. Haven’t seen much chatter on this site lately.

The head honchos had their calendar blocked off most of the day on Thursday 6/26. They may have been given a heads up about the upcoming plans.

@1bv numbers and stock performance strongly indicate the coming layoffs.

Does anyone know for sure if there will be lay offs in July? What’s going on?

Last year they did it week after the 4th, I can't imagine them doing it right before.

@m6 I guess if the date for the 2nd half kickoff is moved, we'll all know why...

IT will be given the 3-day “weekend” to prepare for the purge.

Expect a glowing June performance email blast to be sent out around 5 PM on Thursday the 3rd, similar to what happened last year before the 4-day Fourth of July weekend. This will serve as a smokescreen and let people let their guard down only to get whacked upon returning from the weekend. Although, there is no WFH on Tuesdays anymore, so I’m not sure how they will get around that. The timing of the kickoff meeting complicates it even more.I doubt they would do anything before month-end, knowing how obsessed they are with pinching for every penny to be billed.

@jv maybe your location isn't being affected, but the Phillipines are DEF listed as contractors, who in turn, are taking over the brunt of work for certain departments.. You are right that if you are a su-k up, you def get special privileges AKA don't even have to work on in office and WFH days.. But on a side note, always be careful what you talk about to others whether it's mgmt or not, because the minute you tell them something, within 5 min, the whole dept will know..

I mean wow, people are having their seats moved? Because of "talking"? When (allegedly) the reason in-office work was expanded (not "return to office", expanded in-office after many of us were hired and SHOULD have been financially compensated) is for "collaboration"...? How many times did CEO Sammy mention the coffee in Melville and the resulting spontaneous conversation? Golly, it's almost like blatant hypocrisy.

@ez what jobs are being done in the Phillipines that we once did? Serious question. Also, the thing I've noticed is if you are a slacker that su-ks up all day but the manager is your "friend" you can do nothing in the office AND at home aka be in yellow afk then state you don't know why it must be Teams having issues as they are clearly there. NOT.

The weird people in the next room spend most of the day clapping loudly like they are in a sports bar or something. If the company wants to do layoffs, I’m all for removing the unproductive losers, but they better not touch those that bust our stones, because if they do I will go berserk.

The amount of micro managing is out of control... You got seats getting moved, you are being reprimanded for talking, but yet in other depts and with other people, the same rules DO NOT apply.. They want us to give 100%, however, why would you do that when you don't get the same in return?! Nobody has done any "collaborating" so why not just WFH full-time? I guarantee the productivity would be better and so would everyone's mental health..

The moving seats thing is definitely a di-k move! How old are we? You been a bad girl/boy now let me sit you where I can watch you all day while hiding behind my 10 monitors “running reports”

It sure is a terrible time everywhere you look. Which makes me say hey Canon why make the coming into the office experience such a horrible time? Managers watching if you are talking to your coworker this after the reason for coming into the office in the first place is to COLLABORATE!? Seats being moved as punishment for talking? Like it was stated before they don’t give a flying fu-k about any of their workers and the employees feel that every day! So yes things are bad all over and jobs are hard to come by but that should not be an excuse for how management treats their employees and then expects a smile and productivity! Work is non existent in the US while the workers in the Philipenes are busy doing what we once did! So let’s wrap this sh-t up! Nobody needs this uncertainty! Life in itself is stressful enough!

@eq There are thousands of us all over the country in both office, service, sales, and technical positions and the job prospects out there are awful right now. Really terrible time to end up unemployed, and Canon wouldn't be alone in a Q3 purge. 2025 not looking great anywhere...

@e9 I agree with you that Melville certainly doesn't need to take the brunt.. There are many smaller locations (Burlington) for example, that has maybe 300 people there.. Would it be awful before the 4th of July? Yes, but the way things have been going as of lately, nobody will be surprised and I'm willing to bet that some, not all, won't even be mad because at this point, people are over it...

There are employees all over the country, Melville doesn't have to take the bulk of the hit right now. But the all-company meeting / 2nd-half kickoff scheduled on 7/9 is basically a year to the day after the last mass layoff. Would they lay off people heading into the July 4th weekend so that meeting can be the same funeral-like messaging as last year? Seems particularly and intentionally cruel to me, but this is corporate America, and profits always matter more than people's lives. How these CEOs sleep at night is beyond me.

Regardless, I agree that mass layoffs are coming again, and direct sales will probably take the biggest hit. Which of course will only cost the company more money in the long run.

Exactly,I don't think they can have many more layoffs, since they need to maintain 1081 employees in order to not lose their Suffolk county tax incentives. Besides if you ask me, I think they are working on the deal with NYU Langone and once they sell the building and are ready to move, then they will no longer need to maintain that number of employees. Possibly, that is when Sh%^ will hit the fan and they will do a massive layoff to clean house and start with a slim operation at their new location. Only my opinion, and we will have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Can there even be layoffs in Melville now, without impacting the tax incentives Suffolk County currently provides to Canon?

I don’t even know if a severance package is worth it. I learned from previous experience that signing away your right to pursue legal action and speak out against your former employer can come back to bite you, a previous employer’s law firm sent me a cease and desist letter even though I stated supported facts online about their unethical hiring & firing practices. It was the first time I was ever laid off and felt pressured to sign the severance agreement. It was a rookie mistake on my part. I probably would reject severance if offered because I want the freedom to fight back against tyranny.

So is everyone waiting in misery and angst for a severance package that never come? Where is the once great CSA organization and leadership?

If you haven't noticed many people from the previous CSA sales and support organization have announced new jobs on LinkedIn. Surprising the VP of Strategic Sales has left.

@OP I agree!! Something is definately off and to be honest, the way things have been going, I am sure there are people that will welcome a severance package.. It's such a toxic environment and you can tell that the people you run into aren't happy, they just look defeated and miserable... .
