Thread regarding Wisconsin layoffs

Winsconsin 2025 Layoffs: Stellantis, Enerpac, Simmons Pet Food, Trane, Sonoco, Ryder...

Wisconsin is going through a tough year. Several large factories are closing. Thousands of people are losing jobs. The impact is hitting manufacturing and food production the hardest.

Stellantis is closing its Mopar parts distribution center in Milwaukee. The closure affects 300 workers. It’s part of a nationwide network reorganization. Stellantis is trying to cut costs and streamline operations.

Enerpac Tool Group is shutting down two Wisconsin locations. One in Milwaukee and another in Columbus. About 270 jobs are being eliminated. The work is moving to Minnesota and Tennessee. The company is consolidating its production facilities.

Simmons Pet Food is closing its Menomonie plant. 195 employees will lose their jobs. The company said the site faced ongoing operational challenges. They could not resolve them, even after attempts to improve efficiency.

Trane Commercial Systems is laying off workers in La Crosse. Around 200 jobs are affected. Parent company Ingersoll Rand is restructuring. It wants to improve efficiency and reduce overhead.

Other smaller closures are also adding to the total. Sonoco Products shut its packaging plant in Madison. That resulted in 95 layoffs. Ryder Logistics closed a facility in Pleasant Prairie. That cost 67 people their jobs.

Despite these losses, unemployment in the state is still low. The labor market remains tight. Many workers are expected to find new jobs quickly. But transitions can still be difficult, especially in smaller towns.

Manufacturing is changing. Old plants are closing. At the same time, advanced manufacturing is growing. Companies in automation, med-tech, and biohealth are expanding in Wisconsin.

The state is feeling pressure from high interest rates. Business investment has slowed. The housing market has cooled. Inflation is less severe than last year, but still a concern.

Some sectors are holding steady. Agriculture continues to support the state economy. Healthcare and insurance are large employers. Food processing is strong, even with a few plant closures.

Workforce development is a major focus. The state is offering retraining and job placement support. Displaced workers are being steered toward growing fields. Local programs are helping people upskill.

The economy is shifting. Legacy industries are shrinking. New ones are growing. Wisconsin is adjusting, one step at a time.
