United for Giving (Benevity) BEWARE

After years of giving I had a non profit reach out to me about a check they received. Evidently, Benevity takes a large cut of our donation match and the recipients just receive a check in the mail with no explanation, no contact information, and absolutely no idea who triggered the donation. Those comments that we enter into the form, that are supposed to go to the recipient, never make it to the recipient.

Very eye opening. You would think that something would accompany the check. You'd also expect some sort of disclosure about the percentage of the match being withheld by Benevity. Very disappointing.

Perhaps research who you give your charitable donations to before you send them your money? Just a thought. Trust nobody but your self.

Maybe a problem with that particular organization? I have received thanks or added to nonprofits’ email distributions after donating through Benevity.
