My 60-year-old boss takes credit for my ideas all the time but then blocks me from leadership training. How’s Exxon supposed to compete when they’re scared of anyone under 40 having any kind of influence? I swear, I feel so stuck that I'm this close to quitting.

Please, names or initials about the despicables.
There are a handful of older middle managers that somehow believe they aren’t capped out. Fortunately it’s not a majority.
People took credit for my work all the time. But named managers who did no work in the area except attended a few meetings.
Sounds about right… the place run by thieves.
What an oversized ego. Just because you put it on LO site your awesomeness, doesn’t make it fact. Two sides to every story 🤡
That's the way it is at XOM, it's "me first before others", all the time. If you decide to NOT pursue any leadership role in your future, your manager will ding you for that and you're doomed. If your manager sees that you have a leadership potential, he will see you as a threat.
Start applying for other jobs. Exxon kinda su-ks and you don't have much to lose by testing the market.
Demonstrate your willingness by taking Career Connect offerings and communicate desires with your manager and document in your PDS. Talking with them ultimately may not yield the desired results you seek, but should your manager change, you will have demonstrated you
did what you could to the next manager.
Maybe it’s because you’re a whiny little bi--h?
if you’re talking about ELP and BLP, those are no longer done by nomination. There is a centralized process for determining who is invited to go, and your boss doesn’t have input.
