Real question: how does one get laid off? Are they taking volunteers? Have you heard of anyone volunteering and getting a package? What level of mgmt would be the one to ask?

Generally this is hard thing to do because laying off people is expensive. It’s unlikely the firm wants to book incremental repositioning charges
I hear People say but “what if I take someone’s spot”. That’s also difficult because of all the underlying decisions that go into laying a person off.
@OP in a lot of companies I’ve been at there are layoff lists typically long tenured well enumerated employees. People clamored to get on it and if you’re politically savant you can do it (I’m not😀).
