Thread regarding Twitter layoffs

Empathy for the employees regardless of sentiment about their employer

I'm not an employee at Twitter and I'm not a big fan of social media tech companies in general but I have nothing but sympathy for the thousands of people who's lives are being unceremoniously put through the wringer by new leadership. Everyone should be treated with respect and dignity in any workplace including in how they are exited from a company. It sounds like neither of those things are happening right now.

I see a lot of hate comments making fun of those who have been laid off and unfortunately there are always going to be people who have nothing positive to contribute to the world other than spite, but I think it's important to recognize that is not representative of the general population.

It shouldn't matter if it's blue collar or white collar jobs being affected, we should be unifying at times like these to support all types of workers who would like to be able to pay their bills and make a living.

Remember, any time or energy workers spend tearing at each other is time spent not actually addressing the real problems for all of us...that many in positions of corporate power are treating workers like cogs in their wealth aggregating empires in order to progressively siphon money away from anyone below the millionaire class.

I agree with the original poster. I have been upset with monetary policy and free government giveaways because it creates massive unintended consequences. But I am also an empathic human being and I feel for everyone that has been (or will be) hurt by the (hopefully) return to sound money policies.

Your life, relationships and mental health are far more important than your job and balance sheet. Remake yourself and come out stronger on the other end!

When my company was bought by a bigger one, there were also thousands of layoffs. And in hindsight I wished many times that I was fired back then. With paid vacation and a nice severance package.

The mass layoff at my company utterly destroyed the culture and created a management vacuum which was eventually filled by a small network of a few ambitious former engineers and their incompetent and lazy yes men, who had been waiting for their chance to take over.

In the end some of the best engineers quit 'voluntarily' when they could take it no longer, after they were cut off of information that could let them work proactively, while most of the promotions are now going to lazy slackers who happen to part of the mentioned network (and live in close proximity to each other) and who are blocking any innovation that would reduce the increasing workload they left for us engineers.

I am also just waiting for my next RSU payout so I can 'voluntarily' quit this nepotistic swamp.
