I’ve learned that lesson the hard way. Managers will take credit when things go right and throw you under the bus when they don’t. HR won’t save you either, they’re there for XOM, not you. Make sure to learn to play their game and you'll be okay. Keep receipts, know your value, and build your own network, because no one’s coming to back you up when it counts.

Evidence does not matter. ExxonMobil management knows that, "They cannot handle the truth."

(1) taking credit for a deliverable, they had no part in helping deliver and
(2) assigning credit to their friends who also played no part in the deliverable.
