The introduction of Amazon's leadership at Walmart Tech has had a detrimental impact on the company's culture. The layoffs have predominantly affected long-term employees and those who were with the company prior to the arrival of this new leadership. This leadership has appointed numerous Senior Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents, in addition to creating a new role of Group Director above the existing Senior Directors to centralize authority. A significant number of resources were shifted from Amazon to various director positions; however, none of these new appointments have experienced layoffs in recent years. Instead, it is the long-serving employees and those who were part of the organization before this leadership's arrival who have borne the brunt of the cuts.
Further layoffs are anticipated in the upcoming months, primarily affecting middle management. Staff software engineers, Senior Engineering Managers, Principal Architects, Directors, and Senior Directors are all at risk.
Group Directors, Distinguished Engineers, Vice Presidents, and Senior Vice Presidents are unlikely to be affected, as they are all receiving substantial salaries, which allows for cost reductions at lower levels. Eliminating just one Vice President or one Senior Vice President could potentially save hundreds of jobs at lower levels. This situation exemplifies ineffective leadership.
