Thread regarding Citrix Systems Inc. layoffs

It's safer to stay - for now

I was laid off from Citrix, but I understand why people would continue working there. We're currently in a recession, at war, and in an election year. Not to mention all the tech layoffs and hiring freezes due to the aforementioned macroeconomic issues. The truth is bills still must be paid regardless of how one feels about the employer. And again as a person who is currently looking for a job, I can confirm that having one is much safer than not having one at the moment. So I hold zero negativity towards those who are staying.

@1ekm+1jud7Oge said it perfectly.

You said, "Most of us who are left are just waiting for the proper offer."

Now you say you accepted an offer and have left. More lies?

To @ala+1jwmuPF4:

Of course it was a bidding war. I can't even count how many recruiters I talked to and how many offers I entertained. I didn't pick the best offer on compensation alone, but the one I did pick was one of the top three comp-wise.

It really all depends on your skillset. If you're finance or HR, maybe you are right. But if you are technical (and even barely kept your skills up-to-date), you should be fine.

Everyone else... EXUDE confidence and you'll do fine. Don't listen to this blowhard.

No negative thoughts either way. Some will leave out of anger and frustration, others will stay out of fear. And variations in between. Just wish everybody good luck. Except the rich.

There are many currently working at former Citrix who will still be working at their current jobs for years to come. Again, Vista and Elliott didn't spend $16.5 billion for Citrix just to burn it down.

Of course it's not safer to stay. You will be cast aside, eventually, like the rest. And, just think of how you're going to explain your apparent apathy to a new potential employer.

And to the guy who says, "It's more of a bidding war" - seriously, you expect us to believe that BS? Only a fool would have multiple real offers and still choose to stay.

But you're no fool, you're simply lying (to your pitiful self).

Most of us who are left are just waiting for the proper offer. I, myself, have several companies I'm talking to and am having ZERO problem finding companies willing to hire me. It's more of a "bidding war" to see who comes up with the best offer. But I'm not rushing into quitting--just waiting for the proper thing...

"Skilled tech talent" is not the only type of employee at Citrix, as you well know.

Understood, many of the remaining leftovers at Citrix don't have the skills employers seek. That's why they feel trapped and have no option but to stay put, for now.

I don't think anyone said not to look for new opportunities - only that quitting and staying home while you look for a new job is not necessarily a good plan. "Skilled tech talent" is not the only type of employee at Citrix, as you well know.

Ongoing demand for skilled tech talent is so high in the U.S. and UK markets right now that I have to wonder why anyone would not seek a better work environment and higher pay. Ex-employees who recently left Citrix have reported pay increases, better benefits, and exiting new roles at companies that have a future of growth investment.

If you must stay at CSG, do understand that you are likely missing new opportunities.

I hope nobody is recommending that people quit without having another job in place. That is usually not a good strategy. And there are some people who will have difficulty finding another job due to age, competition, outdated skills, etc. If you're a hotshot developer with the latest skills, and you can get a job tomorrow, that is great for you, but that is not representative of the job market as a whole.

Adding the looming Diesel shortage in winter. It’s going to be a nightmare.
