Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

I used to love this job

Now I’m just sitting here waiting to get cut. At this point, even a chaotic startup seems better than this limbo.

@bs

I am the OP. I am a boomer. I was massively back stabbed twice at Dell, once by a Gen X, once by a Boomer. As I said originally, I absolutely hate the gen-on-gen bickering. But if you have an unethical person up your leadership ladder, they will sc--w you regardless of age.

Wouldn't be so sure about the "even a chaotic start-up" thing. My first job, before Dell, was a start-up.
Still 0 career chances + my salary was 3-4 times lower than now, right below the official poverty line.

I'm over 40 so I want a paycheck without the effort required and responsibility. I try to do the minimum possible so that it makes me look busy and working. But I just stretch out my work to do as little as possible. But I want the paycheck. If Dell would pay me my salary and let me do my own thing then that's the best outcome for us both.

Let me tell you something these boomers are ready and willing to sc--w everyone else. They are su-king up all the resources and a scourge on society.

they su-k up housing, jobs, health care, and social security. They are the locust

I really hate when these threads turn into generation vs generation feuding. The problem at Dell isn’t Boomers, Gen X, Gen Z, the problem is lack of leadership, strategy, vision.

Eyes on the prize people.

Right on! I've been interacting with humans for 50 plus years without issues. This new generation is completely clueless.

Speaking of Gen Z, why the F&$# do I need to watch training videos on how to interact with other adults?! Are they that mentally fragile that we need training material on how to interact with them? Good grief.

Gen Z has been triggered. Time to retreat to the safe space with an emotional support cat. Unreal. Believing that you are 'owed" anything is insane. Get out there, earn your place and stop expecting to be handed anything.

"Let’s be honest, you never loved this job."

I loved this job until Dell relegated me to doing call center work instead of technical work.

'No one is going to help you but you."

help me help you. The boomer-speak is insufferable. No wonder they are the most vile demographic right now.

Dear “Grow a Pair,”

Ah yes, the classic tough-guy routine is projecting your burnout as wisdom before sunrise. Inspiring.

If “shut up and collect the check” is your life motto, congratulations on aiming for the absolute floor. Some of us actually want fulfillment, not just a benefits package and a slow crawl toward a gold watch.

But thanks for the reminder of what settling looks like.

If you’re up at dawn posting on a layoff site, let’s be real - you never loved this job. It’s been draining your soul for years
