This company manages out of fear. If you’re not working extra extra hard, you may get on the list. So always put in long hours. Never take a break. You know layoffs are coming. Prove you’re hardcore by working working working long hours.

“Fear” is the only motivational tool that Citi management has. It certainly isn’t money.
Being better than the bottom person on a team is a great way to stay in a job and maintain a healthy work life balance. In my early days of work I was not wise enough to discern this and unfortunately worked too hard. Now I just do a mediocre to decent job and am reasonably paid for my (Modest) effort. When I retire I’m going to write a self help book to tach others to do the same.
no, this is true, while it does not protect you, it just buys you more time. You just have to be better than the worst worker on the team.
This is BS. Working hard, long hours will not protect you.
