Thread regarding Adidas layoffs

They can restructure all they want - nothing will improve

Without a clear vision and strategy, any restructuring is just a pointless exercise. The only ones who gain are those who benefit personally from the changes.

If you want vision and clarity, you are in the wrong organization

One group of empowered people comes and starts putting employees on roles without thinking, and then 2 years later, another set of ppl will question the same employees on the very same roles they were put in, leading to another round of change. This drama is going on since years and there hasn’t been a single model which could sustain itself for more than a year. Such a poor vision. For the first time in years, the love for the brand is getting diminished. All credit to some really horrible steps by a group of favoritism driven leaders. I feel for BG. All of his ambitions will be tough to achieve with this kind of execution.

New guy -> Changing operation / structure for the sake of change -> Nothing works without vision or good leadership -> Change the guy -> Repeat

There are 7 CIOs in the past 10 years and every one restructured in some form or the other. Local vs global, horizontal vs vertical, functions and markets. You name it, we’ve seen it. If we need to change it again, there’s something fundamentally wrong on many levels. Thinking it’ll be different this time is just hallucinating. What we need is a long term vision and clarity and a committed SLT to execute that vision. If they fail to do that, it’s ok to change them. We don’t have to change the strategy every time a new guy takes charge. It explains the lack of solid foundation.

If you think they are aiming for any better business outcome, you have already lost touch with reality. Restructuring is the easiest way to elevate favourites & get rid of honest employees who ask for fairness & transparency. They don’t do restructuring because it is needed, they do it for personal agendas sacrificing everything else.
