Depending on severance package, you can be hired back as a contractor but why? I've been around for a bit and while we did have a layoff back in 2008-2009, 2022 is the beginning of the big layoffs. These severance packages do not seem to permit employment of any kind for the duration of the severance payout.

If you are not Rajesh you won’t get hired

This is like asking if after you escape from Alcatraz, do they have boat rides back? You got kicked to the curb and you may not know it, but they did you a favor. Maintain some dignity and move on with your career.

They hire you as a fool since you escaped and went back.

You cannot be hired back as a contractor for at least a year post severance.
