Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The Baytown, Texas "White House" is being demolished?

Lots of great memories from my time at the Baytown Complex — especially the iconic “White House” office building. Whether you worked there, visited, or just passed by on Decker Drive, it has been a true landmark.

As the team prepares for its safe demolition, follow ExxonMobil Baytown Area to celebrate the legacy and reflect on the role this building played in so many careers and stories. Grateful for all the good times!

If you have a favorite memory of the White House, I’d love to hear it — share it in the comments below.

The White House will need to be remediated first. Lead paint and asbestos was the norm when the building was constructed.

I thought China invented “tofu dreg” construction. What next? Are you going to claim that China DIDN’T invent the noodle and fireworks?

MOB is literally falling apart. Didn’t know what spalling was until I saw it on a sign. Best part is when the elevators go in the opposite direction you tell them to.

Had to demo it. It wasn’t open concept. We can’t have individual offices because people will cling to their human dignity which will make it impossible for us to jam them into WE3. They could even start demanding meaningful careers again. Total horror show.

The link from OP is incorrect. Takes you to the wrong man (that uses the silly he/him pronouns).

I was in Baton Rouge in 1990 in the Refinery Main Office. The BRRF RMO was constructed in 1949, was certainly showing its age. The projects group was trying to justify a replacement building, sent a delegation to Baytown to check out the White House, came back with glowing reviews of how much nicer it was. They didn’t get a new RMO building approved, just patched the old one up with some paint and wallpaper. Funny world to see that it is still going strong and the White House is getting demoed!
