Booz Allen to cut 7% of the workforce

CFO Matt Calderone said the company expects to cut about 7% of its staff in the first quarter, "heavily concentrated" in its civil business, as the company expects its defense and intelligence segments to continue growing this year. As of March 31, Booz Allen had roughly 35,800 employees, putting the 7% layoff figure likely around 2,500 people.

Anyone know if the layoffs are happening over time or in waves? First quarter is over, are we through the tunnel yet?

Musical chairs plays out daily at Booz Allen. Every morning, at 7 am sharp the game begins for Booz Allen employees. Count on it no matter what Booz Allen leadership preaches. So, when the music stops, if your left standing without a chair you'll be issued a layoff notice within days if not hours. There are many people inside the company desperately looking for new work. Unfortunately, if you are one of them. Your given an unrealistic amount of time to find new work before a layoff notice is issued to you.

Layoffs at Booz Allen Amid DOGE-Led Federal Spending Cuts

  1. Booz Allen Hamilton is laying off 2,500 employees (about 7% of its 36,000 workforce) due to widespread contract cancellations and reductions driven by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
  1. The firm is especially vulnerable because 98% of its $12B revenue comes from federal contracts, making it heavily exposed to DOGE’s review of $65 billion in consulting deals.
  1. Layoffs will focus on divisions serving civilian agencies, which account for about 35% of Booz Allen’s revenue.
  1. Booz Allen CEO Horacio Rozanski cited unexpected speed and severity of cuts:
    > “These dynamics are indeed in play at a rate and speed that is beyond what we originally expected.”
  1. Other major consulting firms like Accenture and Deloitte are also affected, with some moving ahead on layoffs amid canceled or threatened contracts.
  1. The Pentagon canceled $5.1B in “wasteful” contracts in April, $4B of which came from Booz Allen, Accenture, and Deloitte.
  1. As of now, at least 2,775 contracts have been revoked, saving about $3.1B, far below DOGE’s claimed $32B in total savings.
  1. Over 3,600 layoffs in the Washington, D.C. area this year have been linked to DOGE-related cuts, with firms slashing prices to remain competitive.
    > “Everybody’s so desperate for work now... they’re lowball[ing] their price.”
  1. Public sympathy is limited due to a widespread belief that consultancies overcharge for questionable results.
  1. Some experts warn that agencies may get lower quality service, and critical public functions could suffer.
