today i got a lump sum severance payout i left with 8 months with benefits after 8 years. never had an opportunity for growth. only constant org change. director was a complete ah never checked in never helped. i shipped my laptop phone and badge 2 weeks ago; the package returned back to me for some reason. what to do?

Sounds like EMEA or APAC.
Keep the package and charge them interest on it.
8 months after 8 years is not US Geo. They would have gotten 8 weeks base + 8 weeks for tenor. So 3 months vs 8 months. My guess GEO is EMA.
Which GEO? AMER, EMEA etc?
If it was non-delivery due to their fault, send them a formal letter saying that you'll be charging them x amount per hour for storing their property.
