AMAT always does a surprise shutdown for a week around Christmas every year. They never tell their employees until last minute and the vendors know first about it before any AMAT worker. It is essentially a paycut because they literally don't pay their workers for an entire week, which makes their salary offer letter a lie because you have to subtract a week's pay from any offer letter they give you.

So it's not much of a surprise then isn't it? It's basically a coordinated time off that everybody takes at once since it's near impossible to get anything done with the people gone that are already out.
