Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

A company in real trouble

I worked for Teradata for a number of years, was there for the VL & OR era. I was part of the rif end of last year. There is a lot of disgust with the ELT on this board. The blame starts and ends with the BOD. They hired and continue to support these guys.
Im sure the ELT try their best, but they are limited. They are simply administrators. Their strategy seems to be one of managed decline. Retreat to core customers and milk aar from them for as much as possible. Declining YOY revenue, no new logos of note. On the positive side cash flow is positive. But for this strategy to balance cost control must be prioritized and continual. Translation, if you are not directly involved in bringing in revenue your position will be up for review, regardless of who you are.
I really hope Teradata succeed, it still has value for its customers. But I don’t think they have a long term future. To many mis-steps by leaders who were not competent. The company is brittle, the trench leadership who matter are gone. Maybe it is being set up to be sold. And despite the ELT promoting their trusted AI for hybrid cloud platform tagline what they don’t seem to realize is that AI is coming for them
Best

The war has been fought and Teradata has lost and they must accept that outcome. Too slow to adapt, released a below par cloud product and the market picked up on this which is why no one is buying it.

SM was a failure from day 1. Then they went and hired NC as CSO and you knew we were headed for trouble. Then to make things worse JW came on board and it was just embarrassing.

All the good leaders have been let go over the years. What's left is a workforce that is worried for their future, keep applying for roles in the market hoping to leave and hopefully can keep food on the table whilst the LET enrich themselves with RSU's. Notice how none of the ELT have made any purchases of the stock using their own money? That alone is an indication of where this is headed

Molly Treese needs to be terminated. Even if we ignore the other misconduct at unrelated organizations there are still glaring ethical issues here. First off, Teradata is being sued for fraud after SM lied to investors. Second, they're now being sued for patent infringement. Treese ignored numerous letters warning they would be sued for patent infringement which is beyond incompetent to the point of being deliberately unethical.

Why do you give Teradata a pass?

The product is terrible, and solutions like Snowflake are better in almost every way.

We all know the BOD and the ELT they hand picked are the issue. It's been this way for 20+ years. Nothing is going to change and the product so far behind the times that it wouldn't matter if it did.

Why use short form to these names? These fellas chose public life in exchange of hefty pay. Victor Lund and Oliver Ratzesberger. Between board positions and executive leadership they mint few pretty pennies. Steve McMillan is worse, but that is just my opinion. A caravan of opportunists lined their pocket at joe six pack's expense, so make them proud of their handy work.

It’s pretty simple. No one is buying what they are selling.
