Thread regarding Optum layoffs

LHH Services

Anyone who was RIF'd use these services that we're provided for three months? They called me yesterday to set things up, but ehhh...idk. They're not a headhunting or recruiting service. My initial thoughts is that it's a waste of time. Thoughts?

Used them after previous job transitions years ago. Just a way to hang with a bunch of people in the same boat which is waste of time. The counselors it appears were family counselors contracted to book their empty sessions they didnt know a thing about the job market. I would think in the new world we live in now even more out of touch with reality.

Totally useless. They never reach out or return calls. I've tried reaching out several times with no luck. Will keep on trying but am expecting more of the same. If Optum is paying for this service, then they should ask for a refund.

It really depends on what you need to prepare for and execute your job search. If you're really good at these tasks already they won't provide much added value, other than a sounding board.

They have very good resume review and feedback, from just tweaking to helping you put together a decent one if you're not very good at it.

The coaches are good at making sure you've done all the basics in your job search.

They provide free access to some training resources that can help with upskilling or rounding out skills if you need it or it will help you get some buzzwords, certifications, or keywords on the resume.

For the job finding and suggestions.... that's not really great right now at LHH or anywhere. It's an employer's market right now in most fields and LHH isn't going to be able to do anything about that or to help you bust through it if you're already doing the right things. It also means some of the techniques they promote ("figure out who the hiring manager is and contact them!") are out-of-date.

Better than nothing, but not a silver bullet.

I have used them before and similar to other comments, they were helpful with my resume and the group touch base meetings were supportive but their job board was useless. Remember, their clients are industries across the spectrum. There were many manufacturing job posts, never anything that came close to aligning with my knowledge nor expertise

These services only spoke to the company having zero intent to let us stick around after layoff, no matter how hard we applied to internal postings.

I have used them in the past. I believe they provide valuable resources in terms of coaching, counseling, resume and online optimization. They do have another part of the company where if your resume and profile is made visible, you possibly could get contacted by someone looking for a candidate they are doing a search for.

I was RIF'd but not offered LHH via Optum/UHG. However, I worked for another company about 9 years back that used LHH when I was RIF'd. Personally, they were a waste of my time. They offer you assistance with resume services and basically send you job openings from job boards across the Internet. Again that was several years ago and they were useless in my opinion. But of course companies will offer something like this as a PR tactic to say "we laid them off, but we're trying to help them find another position". Good luck in your job search (That is not sarcasm but sincerity)!
