Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum tech and OI layoff rounds

It’s concerning that some department managers are failing to communicate with their teams about the upcoming meeting.
I’m employed on the Optum side of products and working alongside CHC , I’ve observed key differences in operational culture, communication standards, and leadership dynamics
CHC managers have consistently struggled to align with Optum’s organizational culture. Their leadership style often lacks transparency and adherence to established protocols, favoring micromanagement over collaboration. There is minimal team engagement, and their limited proficiency with advanced product systems has further complicated operations. Since Optum’s acquisition, the integration has been disjointed, This disconnect continues to hinder alignment and overall effectiveness.

UHG and Optum has spent years expanding its influence across the healthcare industry, investing heavily in lobbying efforts to shape policy and competitiveness. With substantial power and financial leverage, UHG was well-positioned to acquire CHC. While the timing of the recent cyberattack have raised questions, it accelerate the integration process. opportunistic company.

layoffs are executed with little warning, and management tends to withhold key details until the last moment. It will happen across all departments. Look at the new internal positions created for Business analyst and payer EDI roles its under a different department title just this week.

I agree with all this. The people leaders aren't really leaders, but they are enforcers who push out decisions from higher ups. No matter the impact, they will implement changes without hesitation or regard for employees and/or customers. I parted way some time ago, due to this culture, and concern for job security.

Change Healthcare was built and financed to eventually be sold to CVS or a similar Big 3 Healthcare Co.

That the guys who tanked UHG (AW & co) happened to be the ones who bought it was unfortunate for the CHC employees, just as it was unfortunate for the UHG employees that those guys got to run UHG.

But the Change execs crying about it is crocodile tears, just as AW feeling he was a victim of circumstances (the "dysfunctional U.S. healthcare market") is BS. They all made out like bandits, and they might be sad that their reputation is tarnished, but it's their own d*mn fault and not one of them has suffered as much as the employees.

What I'm hearing is that CHC managers aren't mindless, yes-man automatons. Good.

Sounds about normal for any modern acquisition spot weakness and pounce. Gobble up market share. Not like change was any different with all the silos they still had with all the companies they gobbled up over the years. Just got eaten by a bigger fish.

Love the way the writer said all that but Optum did not have some brilliant organized strategy to acquire Change. They stocked them and exploited a situation. They found out the ceo had taken out loans and they swooped in and offered to buy the company and pay off the loans. What he did not know is they are ruthless creeps who lied to him. He did not know they were planning to destroy the company. He thought they would collaborate and than the layoff started . Don’t believe it read all about it in the court transcripts when the justice dept tried to block the acquisition. They even have emails where AW told Optum not to let any morals get in their way.

@b8+1jvvdq7cp Optum wasn't always like this, there used to be a lot of good teams at Optum. There still are, but they'll make sure to put an end to that. A lot of these toxic culture changes come from higher-up, and UHG is just as complicit in it.

The people in charge of Optum don't understand tech, never will, and will manage you like you're a warehouse worker who can be moved anywhere and should adapt to do anything, and your work should meet strict quotas. Even though your work is specialized. Even though productivity is impacted by what team you're with and what your product is.

I miss working for an actual tech company. Forcing Change to replace its long term contractors with lowest bidder replacements was disastrous. Optum's organizational culture is pure shyt.
