You might be surprised at just how many staffing agencies are out there these days, and once they latch onto your contact information you're on their radar forever! Their job is to get you onboard working for them as soon as possible because they're competing with thousands of other staffing agencies, and so they can be pretty aggressive.
If you're OK with this then by all means, make your profile public. Know that there's some room for pay rate negotiation. Intel generally prefers contractors who are familiar with culture and recruiters know this. Don't be afraid to negotiate.
