New RTO guidance?

I’m hearing from multiple people including my people leader(s) and others that they’ve updated RTO to be that you have to be in office minimum of 6.5 hours in order for that day to count that you were in office. Not sure if anyone else heard this.

@1ha That’s really the “that’s the way we’ve always done it” line which deters creativity and innovation. Everyone went in prior due to lack of technology and/or a paternalistic view that employees would not be productive. Companies were forced to update and productivity + morale were at all-time highs. Air quality improved and employees benefitted w/ saved commuter $$ & better work life balance. Why regress when the employment landscape can be vastly improved?

when Covid hit, did you ask the company to reduce your pay since you were not having to drive into the office anymore?

Before Covid, remote work was debated. Then, investment and two years of evidence proved it possible.

Some fight for employers who don’t care about them. They demand unpaid hours, spending their money, harming their health, and congesting communities. That's literally your argument. Wicked smart.

Companies should pay for in-office if it’s valuable. This could include covering extra road capacity, subsidizing healthcare, and pollution impacts. If in-office isn’t valuable, they should abandon outdated thinking.

It’s not everyone though. It’s those that were not lucky enough to get an exception for some non-standard reason. Sounds like a liability to me.

it has been said before - everyone went into the office before the pandemic - that was the norm - now it is getting back to that but everyone is annoyed - find a new remote job if you don't like doing what you were doing before the vid

How about the money we spend in gas and tolls going into the office? I don’t remember getting a raise, but those with an exception basically got a raise by not having commuting expense. How’s that fair?

We’re at the point now where I just don’t care. To make life miserable for those actually going into the office while a select few still get exceptions to wfh in their pajamas … sure I’ll play that game all day, with counsel. So I say, bring it.

That's how it's always been. Walt's words were, 'The majority of the day'. Still, don't put in your 8 could be looked at as not following the rule by your management. Some management could careless, hope you have one of these.

I’ve heard it but have no idea how they track this. What if I’m working in a common space or meeting room that doesn’t require you to badge in/out? (Like amenity building in DFW)

Ok, they can fire me and then lose millions of dollars when a system that is critical to the business fails because I'm one of the few people with domain knowledge on it and they severely underestimated the required effort to do something that will keep the critical system in question running. Just don't expect me to come back for a low price.

We aren't tracking attendance formally. They certainly aren't tracking 6.5 hours. Teams and locations vary but in my t/l it's bau.
