Good luck making it to retirement age

The job eliminations that started this week have already taken out several people with well over 20 years experience as well as one that has of 40 years of service. Loyalty is a foreign concept to this company. Years of service are meaningless. It's scary trying to start over at 50 or 60 having given your youth to a company that doesn't appreciate it.

  • They aren’t even hiring people in Columbus anymore. Most hiring is done in India and the Philippines. Cost is 4 to 1. Unreal.

Scary? It’s a nightmare of a nearly impossible task. Age discrimination is rampant and widespread but very hard to prove. These companies have great legal teams that have built in a lot of firewalls for this. What’s worse? Being early 50’s having kids in school, having bills and mortgages and a spouse that isnt the prime income or any income at all. That’s vulnerability now in this head chopping cheap environment. Best you can do? Save for 1 or 2 years of being out of work and always develop new skills even on your free time.
