Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

I feel bad for Visual Captains

They are expected to act like the old Visual Managers without the training and the knowledge of them. And less pay and no help. Not to mention that their bosses, the SMMs have a VERY limited knowledge, if any, about Visual and don’t get much training on it either. Bad on both ends. I know our VC is at her wits end. Too much workload, not enough help.

This is true at my location as well. Some truly have it worse than others since the changes were implemented.

Omg…what is wrong with this company…zap all of the productivity and creativity out of the workers, for what? The all mighty annual bonus for Jeff and his cohorts? The loss of the creativity flow from visual is the worst. The stores are gross. What are the board of directors thinking…Circuit City? Shame on them. All the talent that makes Macy’s Macy’s is leaving for greener pastures. Does cutting the payroll of everyone with a talent and skill make Macys profitable in the long run? Do you really think Macys will exist in 10 years? Do you care? Do you understand that the hard working Macys teams will not work if you keep cutting? Do you want to go down as the board of directors that destroyed a business all for personal greed? Macys can only be profitable with substantial payroll cuts, really? I can see the case study for the demise of Macys from top rated business schools, like Stanford…and god forbid Cal’s Haas School of Business( Authors of the case study on the demise of Circuit City) My advice, cut the consultants, McKinsey types…get rid of them. Their advice is ki----g this company literally. Think and take a chance to be original in your leadership. Do not follow the sheep led by the consultants…it is hard but rewarding. What do you have to lose, Jeff? Jeff are you out there?

I got hired as the Visual Manager before the covid shut down and when I came back I was demoted to visual captain. lets just say I didn't stay very long after that.

As a vendor I have always had a really good relationship working with the Visual staff in the Stores. They get it and are always busy so this is unfortunate to hear all of this. Most of the Receiving areas I’ve seen are loaded and can barely move. Macys needs to figure out a better plan than ISM that works for all. Wishful think I know LOL.

I think it's hilarious they're still doing the holiday execution contest as if it's business as usual.

What a joke.

I feel bad for SMM OOM and Visual Captain

  • SSM takes the brunt of everything, and its all our fault always. Trucks and Prices changes not getting done....but don't forget to coach to credit and do the functional planners oh and your schedules OH and planning meeting and regional calls and leadership and and and.....

It never ends and your doing the job of a CXM as well

  • OOM Trucks keep coming nowhere to go with them and no equipment to unload a truck on because in most cases your backed up to 2-3 trucks. Fufilment metrics not good because your stuff is sitting on rolling racks or in stockrooms and you cant even move around in a stockroom because its a deathtrap. Most give up and just INF it.....
  • VIsual they do not want you to be creative they want you to follow a photo that is outdated and not on trend....half the time you dont even have the merchandise that they want on the mannequins. Your unloading trucks, dont price changes doing everything but being your creative selves and making the store beauiful. Its no longer a visual job should not even have that as a job title anymore

To the visual captain of 18 yrs.
EXACTLY! I’m in the same boat… Visual is all I ever knew. I started waaay back (MORE than 18 yrs) at Marshall Field’s when visual was theater and excitement. It was our job not to cater to the customers tastes but ELEVATE it!
Pffft… fast forward where I’m looking at a plan-o-gram so that I put the exact RIGHT Style & Co. top with the CORRECT stretchy denim pants! And when I’m not doing that I’m assisting in fulfillment or helping with the truck process.
I have to go with “Don’t be sorry it’s over, be happy it happened”
But boy, talk about a company that basically sooo d-mbed down what I used to think of a a career and was really proud to tell people what I did. Not anymore.

I am “visual” (At least I used to be.) Now the only time I’m visual is when it’s to big, heavy or high. It’s funny when corp. suggested that we buddy up with an associate. LOL, WHO!? Everyone has their own overload and who’d be crazy enough to get up to the top of a 12’ ladder to hang garland, ba--s & apply vinyl (That takes a special talent and PATIENCE 🤯 ) Yeah, let me ask Harriet who’s 5’ 4” and works part time on the dock!

I’m a visual captain that was a visual manager for 18 years. The stores look horrible and I have lowered my expectations, this is basically what they get for cutting visual. Stores with no standards or fashion how very sad

It’s also very apparent when they pull visual captains and others to blitz stores for regional visits. The workload is unmanageable and the expectations way out of line for the amount of colleagues and hours budgeted. But hey, JG has implemented a Wellbeing program ….. that should fix things. /s
